Solar Shade Openness: What the Percentage Actually Means

Solar shade openness affects view, glare, privacy, and heat control. Choosing the right percentage matters.

Solar shades are often described by openness percentage. A lower percentage usually means a tighter weave, more glare control, and less view-through. A higher percentage usually means more view and more light.

The best percentage depends on direction, room use, privacy needs, and how important the view is. A west-facing room may need a different fabric than a shaded north-facing room.

Daytime privacy and nighttime privacy are also different. Solar shades can provide daytime privacy in many conditions, but at night interior lights can make the room more visible from outside.

A consultation helps compare real samples in the actual light of the room, which is much more reliable than choosing from a screen.
